The plant path to a healthier life

What is a herbalist?

We are matchmakers, we choose the plants that you need for your conditions and your terrain (your body, mind and spirit).

Two people with the same complaints, let’s say eczema, will not have the same treatment plan in terms of medicinal plants, diet and lifestyle adjustments. It makes sense really, as these two people do not have the same life story, the same body, or the same emotional health which all impact their body.

This is why a consultation with me is 60min. We go into details about your current symptoms, diet and lifestyle, current and past medication, previous medical history, etc. And as mentioned, we consider your physical and emotional health as they are naturally interlinked.

Furthermore, this investigative work is to determine the root cause(s) of your health issues. We see symptoms as the tip of the iceberg and try to examine what else is in disharmony in your body.

Finally, a consultation is a safe space where you can share what you want to share. It is a space where you are being taken care of, where you can be you, where you do not need to mask, where time stops for a little moment and you can reflect and act on your wellbeing and health.

We are competent at avoiding adverse effects of herb-medication interaction and therefore at choosing the pertinent medicinal treatment for your circumstances in a safe manner.

Medical herbalists are also trained in clinical examinations (blood pressure and pulse, listening to your lungs and heart, etc.). We studied anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, research skills, herbal therapeutics and hands-on experience alongside skilled herbalists.

What is herbal Medicine?

Herbal medicine

Herbal medicine uses traditional herbal knowledge validated by modern science to support health and wellbeing. There is an extensive array of research conducted on medicinal plants, research papers and clinical trials which keeps the herbal knowledge supported and even find new incredible uses (eg. Gingko leaf use is relatively recent in herbal medicine).

Orthodox and herbal medicine do not work in the same way. Modern medications are usually synthetised isolated constituents which while sometimes offering powerful actions, often come with side effects and/or resistance.

Herbal medicine rests on vitality and is more organic in its action. Its strength lies on the synergy of constituents and the craftsmanship of the herbalist who will select the relevant blend for the patient’s terrain (body, mind, spirit). We work on selecting the herbal actions required to treat our patient from a root cause perspective. Finally, we commit to our patients, their healing and their outcomes. We work on longer and deeper solutions where the patient is an active participant of their health.

Herbal medicine is often portrayed as a gentle and soft medicine. While some are nourishing, mineralising, energising or soothing, some plants are very powerful in their actions. Herbalists know about the safety, the appropriate use and the dosage of medicinal plants.

Herbal medicine preparations most used in my clinic are tinctures, teas, ointments and creams but occasionally syrups, herbal capsules, powders, pessaries, elixirs and electuaries are used too.

Herbal medicine uses various parts of plants including flowers, leaves, bark, seeds, roots and other organisms like mushrooms and lichen to create preparations for medicinal purposes.
